When you first saw those two little lines or the word “Pregnant” on the test, what did you feel? I bet you were overcome with emotions. I bet you sat there and cried a mixture of happy and panicky tears. I bet you simultaneously thought “OMG NO WAY!!” and “omg. no way.” Maybe it’s just me, but I was just as nervous as I was excited. Scared as I was happy. Because two things can always be true.
AND – Congratulations, Mama! As you embark on this beautiful journey of motherhood, I’m sure you are documenting every step – whether this is your first or your fifth (or beyond). Capturing that glow of your pregnancy seems to always be at top of everyone’s to-do list. Maternity or pregnancy photos are a wonderful way to commemorate this special time in your life and create a legacy for you and your little one. But when is the best time to schedule your maternity photoshoot?
Now, depending on a couple of factors (which we will talk about below), the answer is actually pretty simple! Generally, the best time for maternity photos is between the 28th and 34th week of pregnancy. During this period, your belly will have that beautiful round shape, and you’ll still feel relatively comfortable. Plus, you’re less likely to be affected by swelling or fatigue that may come later in the pregnancy.
There are a couple of things that will absolutely affect the timing of your maternity session. And, they are worth mentioning.
If you are having twins, triplets, etc, your bump usually pops out a bit sooner, you can get uncomfortable a little bit earlier in the pregnancy, and, sometimes, the pregnancy sometimes takes unexpected twists and turns and we have to schedule to accommodate them. Because of those reasons, my multiple mamas usually opt for a session around the 20 week mark!
Even if you are considered a high-risk pregnancy, you still deserve and can do a beautiful maternity session to document YOUR season. Whether you are giving birth earlier than the “normal” 40-42 weeks, have to take it easy and sit for most of your session, then we will adjust the date and location of your images.
Every pregnancy is unique, and it ultimately depends on how you feel. Some expectant mothers prefer to take photos earlier, around the 24th week, when the bump starts to show but they still have plenty of energy. Others may choose to wait until the 36th week, embracing their fuller figure and capturing the anticipation of the final weeks.
Did I get them all? Was there one that I missed – comment them below!
Are you due in 2024? Then just find your due date and count backwards till you get to weeks 28-34. Those are the weeks you should look for someone to take your maternity images, unless you have one of the special conditions mentioned above! And if you are in the Fort Worth area, or even the DFW area, then hit me up! We could create some amazing images together!
