Have you ever wondered what to wear at your pregnancy session? Of course you have! What about what NOT to wear to your maternity shoot? I bet that thought has crossed your mind too! I love love love my expecting Mamas and I love making sure that you look your absolute best during your session. Most of time, Mamas just want to look like a bada$$ goddess during their session. They want to look ethereal and beautiful. Glowing and gorgeous. And, girl! I want you to know that I got you! So, with that vibe in mind, let’s talk about what not to wear during your maternity session!
If you are wearing something that you need to fiddle with or fix every 2.5 seconds. If you end up with that kind of outfit, you will be so engrossed and involved in your outfit, and not the moment. It completely consumes you and the pictures, unfortunately, show it. Your face and posture will be tense and not relaxed. You will not like the results. So, just avoid wearing something that is super uncomfortable during your maternity shoot!
This one MIGHT be slightly controversial, maybe not. I don’t know. But, I always suggest, planning on more than 1 look for your maternity session. Especially if 1 of your looks is an incredibly specific vibe, like an intimate boho beach sesh or 90s grunge look. So, in theory, you could do a more glam look with a long dramatic dress, and then change into a cute white or black crop top and some cute jeans! This way you’ll be able to have this chapter of your life in more than 1 perspective. No one regrets having planned on more than 1 look, I promise.
Just don’t. I’m pleading with you for photographers everywhere. If you wear any sort of bright neon colors, you end up reflecting that color onto YOUR skin as well as EVERYONE else’s. It doesn’t edit well. The colors end up distorted. And, the photos that you get back will never ever look like what the rest of our portfolio looks like. So please, just don’t do it.
For me & my editing here at For the Wildlings Photography, the colors I use are neutrals as well as earth-toned colors. I’ll put a color palette below so that you can see what I’m talking about. I also help you coordinate what you’ll wear with the rest of your loved ones, as well as incorporating textures and patterns. No neons, no pastels, etc.
And that’s it – my Top 3, well 4 things that you should NOT wear to your upcoming Maternity shoot! If you are shooting with ME, then you’ll have a completely customized style and mood board. That board will include links to my client closet, anything that we will need to complete the look from various sources online or in-stores around the area, and whatever you already own in your own wardrobe. If you are not working with me, then why not? Reach out here lol!
OR, if you already have a session scheduled with another photographer, reach out to them and start that conversation so you can have the best maternity shoot ever!
